Meet Cash

Every voice belongs.

Cash loves to play, and he has so much he would like to say. Through gestures, pictures, play and one precious "Mama," he shares his world with the people who love him.

Inspired by a mother and her autistic son, My Voice, My Way celebrates patience, faith and the many ways a child can be heard.

Follow Cash through his day: a sunny morning at home, a hard moment at school, playtime with new friends, his speech helper Mrs. Pam, and a cozy bedtime prayer.

A note for grown-ups

Communication is already happening.

Every child communicates in their own time and in their own way. If a child you love does not speak, or speaks only a little, notice what they are already sharing, welcome it, and give it room to grow.

Spoken words are one way to connect. They are not the measure of a child's worth.

From our home to yours.

Five ways to support a child's voice

  1. Give time to answer.Pause patiently. Let the child respond at their own pace.
  2. Welcome every way to communicate.Gestures, signs, pictures, sounds and movement all count. Eye contact is not required.
  3. Offer choices. Two pictures or objects can help a child choose without pressure.
  4. Celebrate small wins.Write down what the child did, tried or shared. Honor effort and connection.
  5. Work with your team.Partner with family, teachers and speech and language specialists.
